ZEN Quilting
Class is open to anyone with basic machine quilting skills, a craze for zentangle and the desire to add more patterns to your machine quilting repertoire.
The focus and relaxation created by zentangle really does cross over into machine quilting when using the same basic techniques to create these quilting designs.
Kit fee $40.00:
Pre-cut fabric & batting, stabilizer, pens, markers, other goodies ready for you to practice & design a 9” “Zen Quilting” art piece. Plus “Zen Quilting” Workbook by Pat Ferguson. Kits with and without the workbook will be available (for those who already have the book).
SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR CLASS:
-sharp
thread scissors
-a spool plus 2 full bobbins of black thread for machine quilting
-a spool plus 2 full bobbins of white thread for machine quilting
-4 secretary’s rubber fingers that fit your pointer & middle fingers
or quilt grabbers or quilting gloves
-one or two cushions or pillows to sit on- chairs in class are often too short for comfort
-sewing machine- cleaned, oiled and ready to sew.
-machine needles size 90/14 , 80/12 universal, topstitch or quilting
- screw driver for changing your machine feet
-your machine manual- we will refer to it for feet and settings and any problems that we may encounter - there are hundreds of machines on the market and each one is very different
- place you accessory compartment or extension sewing surface on your machine to maximize your sewing area
-walking foot and free motion foot for your machine- see below
-light box if you have one, Pat will bring several light boxes to class to share

-Feet for your machine -try both of these feet on your machine before class to be sure that you have the correct ones- if you don’t have them, bring your machine to your dealer so that the proper foot can be fitted.
*Prices for this foot vary depending on the model of your machine.
*Although it may cost a little more, it is better to purchase the walking foot that is made specifically for your machine rather than a generic one.
*Two important things to look for in a walking foot :
-grabbing teeth on the bottom of the foot
-your needle must line up with the “slot” opening in the center of the walking foot-(if it doesn’t, you won’t be able to see where you are quilting)

*Prices for this foot will a vary depending on the model of your machine.
*This foot will be used without the feed dogs and should freely move up & down with room for your quilt to fit under it. Some are metal, some are clear plastic, some are oval, and some are round. A clear or open foot makes it easier to see where you are going.
*BIGFOOT is great but make sure it fits your machine and works properly.
*Caution- we have not had much luck with the type of foot that swings as it goes down, they tend to break needles. Ask your dealer for a foot that goes straight up and down if you have a choice.
